Utopian Reefscapes

Nikolina Kovalenko's Utopian Reefscapes address the effects of climate change on the health of the ocean’s corals. In 2019 the artist began diving to explore and photograph coral reefs as they are today. Her images are the jumping off point for her oil paintings, which imagine what could be, under the ocean surface, if we all committed to taking better care of the Earth. The artist's imagined Utopian Reefscapes depict an ocean of abundance, where corals of all shapes and colors thrive. These underwater Gardens of Eden take viewers to a world where one can’t tell reality from fiction.

Inspired by the hope filled message of her paintings, Nika has extended her creativity and messaging into a project where each oil painting will have a limited edition “reflective NFT experience”. These NFT videos, paired with either a “breath” or “heartbeat” soundtrack, envelop the earth and rotate infinitely through time and the cosmos. Each oil painting in the exhibition has a special limited edition reflection NFT experience. The NFTs are minted in sets of 4 (3 + 1 A/P kept by artist). Twenty percent of each NFT purchase being donated to the Coral Reef Alliance.

Below is a selection of oil paintings from our upcoming exhibition Utopian Reefscapes featuring artworks by Nikolina Kovalenko. Each sale will benefit the Coral Reef Alliance to help stabilized and rebuild coral reefs around the globe. There will also be a raffle for an oil painting which the artist will be painting during her residency. 100% of the money raised by the raffle will go to the Coral Reef Alliance, who we are working with as our philanthropic partner.
